The Bonnier Motorcycle Group will host its inaugural Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund Live Auction at AIMExpo Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 a.m. A buffet breakfast and a Q&A session with Cycle World’s Kevin Cameron will kick off the auction, which will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and its “Ride for Kids” program.
After Cycle World founder Joe Parkhurst’s death in 2001, his family wanted to honor his legacy by donating to education. Industry friend Larry Little approached the Parkhurst family with the idea of granting college scholarships to brain tumor survivors. Since 2002, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation has given more than 1,000 scholarships in Joe’s name through silent auctions and other events.
Items up for auction include a restored 1972 Yamaha R5, a Ducati Diavel, an AMA World Superbike, signed helmets and assorted gear. All of the funds raised will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. There is no fee to participate, but donations are encouraged.
“The live auction format is new for us, and we’re really excited,” said Mary Ratcliffe, vice president of marketing and communications for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. “The caliber of items is going to attract a lot of attention and raise awareness about childhood brain tumors.”
