AMA Congratulates US Team on Podium Finish at FIM Motocross of Nations

The US team of Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac and Jeremy Martin finished third at the 2014 FIM Motocross of Nations in Kegums, Latvia, on Sept. 28. The American riders fell short of their goal of a world championship, but still performed admirably against some of the best motocross racers in the world.

The U.S. team of Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac and Jeremy Martin finished third at the 2014 FIM Motocross of Nations in Kegums, Latvia, on Sept. 28. The American riders fell short of their goal of a world championship, but still performed admirably against some of the best motocross racers in the world.

"We congratulate France on winning the 2014 FIM Motocross of Nations," said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. "The U.S. riders are honored to compete on the world stage, against the sport’s best, and even though we didn’t bring the Chamberlain Cup back to America, we’re proud of our team’s effort at this challenging and demanding event.

"We especially thank U.S. riders Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac and Jeremy Martin, as well as U.S. Team Manager and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Roger DeCoster, for representing us at this premier event," Massey said.

Each rider at the Motocross of Nations competes in two motos, each of which combines two classes. In individual results, Dungey finished second and 11th riding in the MXGP class. Martin finished 11th and 13th riding in the MX2 class. Tomac finished sixth and third in the Open class.

"We faced some challenges on the track, but Ryan, Eli and Jeremy persevered and represented our country well," said AMA Director of Supercross and Pro Racing Relations Kevin Crowther. "I’m proud of their performance and effort. I’d also like to thank all team members, support crew, sponsors and fans for their support. In addition, I’d like to extend a congratulations to France on their win."

The Motocross of Nations features three-rider teams on a range of motocross machinery. The MXGP class features 450cc four-stroke motorcycles. The MX2 class features 250cc four-stroke bikes. The Open class permits either bike.

The Motocross of Nations is one of the most high-profile motorsport events in the world. It features national teams competing for a combined score to determine the overall championship-winning country. The event emerged in post-war Europe in 1947 and has run uninterrupted since that time.

The United States last won the Motocross of Nations in 2011 when the event was held in Saint D’Angely, France. The United States is also the all-time leader in Motocross of Nations overall team victories with 22. Great Britain is second with 16.
