Motorcycle Industry Council Adds Newest Member to Dealer Advisory Council

Rick Alcon, owner of R&S Powersports Group in Albuquerque, N.M., joins seven other members of the newly formed council. Intended to represent the needs and interests of new dealer members, the council was implemented with the MIC's decision to include dealers in its membership for the first time since 1974.

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) has announced the addition of Rick Alcon, owner of R&S Powersports Group in Albuquerque, N.M., to its Dealer Advisory Council. The new council now includes eight members total.

Intended to represent the needs and interests of new dealer members, the council was implemented with the MIC’s decision to include dealers in its membership for the first time since 1974. The council will have its inaugural meeting Oct. 15-17 in Orlando in addition to participating in other MIC events taking place during AIMExpo.

“Everyone at the MIC is pleased to welcome Rick Alcon,” said MIC President Tim Buche. “Incorporating the dealers into the MIC and providing them with valuable assistance to increase their success in serving current and prospective riders has been a long-term MIC goal, and we’re so pleased to see it coming to fruition. The addition of Rick is one more step in the assembly of an advisory council with literally hundreds of combined years of industry experience, and that represents powersports dealers in every region of the country.”

To date, 252 dealers in 41 states and representing 176 out of 436 congressional districts have joined the MIC. In addition to supporting these new dealer members, the newly formed dealer council will advise the Board and Aftermarket Committee, while the Board will direct dealer/retailer dues revenue to market expansion, training and education, public policy and government relations activities.

With three locations in Albuquerque, R&S Powersports Group strives to be the market leader in the promotion, sales and support of all motorized recreational products. Alcon started R&S with one brand almost 30 years ago and has grown the business significantly since. Today, R&S carries seven brands and maintains a healthy online business.

“I grew up in the motorcycle industry,” said Alcon. “I’m excited to be a part of the MIC and also the MIC’s Dealer Advisory Board because I think communication is always a good thing. I’ve been a longtime participant in dealership best practices groups, and the MIC is sort of like a best practices association for the entire industry. I think the advisory council can help bring together the combined best practices on both the dealers’ and manufacturers’ sides, and I look forward to being an active participant in this communications process.”

In addition to Alcon, the MIC Dealer Advisory Council currently includes Jerry Lenz, general manager of Beaverton Motorcycles in Tigard, Ore.; Rick Rizzon, owner of Rizzon Cycle in Middlesex, N.J.; Kim Harrison, general manager of Coleman Powersports in Woodbridge, Va.; Jim Foster, owner of Killeen Powersports in Killeen, Texas; Bob Althoff, owner of A.D. Farrow Co. in Columbus, Ohio; and Sandy Stroope, owner of Boat World Honda Polaris in Harrison, Ark.. An announcement will be forthcoming with the MIC’s addition of the final council member.
