As noted last month, declining values at this time of year are fairly typical for the season, but the amounts are a bit larger than we have seen over the past several years. In the more distant past, swings in pricing were much greater than we have seen lately, with winter prices dropping precipitously and spring prices rising by similarly large amounts. The last few years, prices have still followed this pattern, but with much smaller swings from high to low.  This fall has the feel of years past, which hopefully means spring will be similarly enthusiastic on the upswing, but we will have to wait a few months to be sure.

“The weather is turning colder in most parts of the country, and Powersports pricing is in a deep freeze this month. All segments except snowmobiles are down, most for the third month in a row,” said Scott Yarbrough, senior analyst of motorcycle and powersportsat Black Book.

Our biggest movers this month are the metric cruisers, down 4.6%, while the domestic V-Twins are down over a point less with a drop of just 3.5%.  Last month, we noted this segment for a larger than usual drop and singled it out for special attention going forward. Rather than an issue with the domestic V-Twins, which have performed a bit better than their metric counterparts and regular street bikes this time around, it appears they were merely an early indicator of the broader, and somewhat larger, seasonal declines we have observed this month.

The only segment to see an increase in pricing this month is not surprisingly the snowmobiles, up roughly 1% over last month’s values.
