Not only has NORRA announced reduced entry fees for all UTVs, but it has also created a stock UTV class to this adventure south of the border. The Mexican 1000 Rally is a fully-supported on-road/off-road rally, open to vintage and modern vehicles. It is filled with excitement, high-performance driving, spectacular scenery, and world-class adventure. You will run the length of the Baja Peninsula in four stages; competing with a diverse group of off-road legends, current competitors and everyday racing enthusiasts.
UTV classes benefit from a $1000 reduction in entry fees for 2016 and with the newly created stock class, anyone with a stock or slightly modified UTV can compete after installing window safety nets and 5-point seat harnesses. Stock class UTVs can be bone stock or have many of the common bolt-on items available at your local UTV retailer including Wheels & Tires, Shocks, Exhaust systems, ECU computers/Custom Tunes, Lights, Seats, and other non-performance items. Items that must remain showroom stock include front and rear suspension arms and shock mounting locations, track width (other than changes due to wheel / tire changes), wheelbase dimensions, drivetrain (other than exhaust and a tune), brakes and steering. Aftermarket cages, seats, and fuel cells are allowed but not required. The maximum tire size is 30″ as indicated by the tire manufacturer. The maximum wheel diameter is 15″.
If your UTV does not conform to stock class rules, you can still compete in the modified class. If you have a UTV, NORRA has a class for you. UTVs don’t get a watered-down version of the Mexican 1000; you will run the entire course and the same schedule as the big cars and trucks. The rally takes place April 23-27; registration is open now! Go to https://www.norra.com today to get started.
