Success in Sight

Build your business with educational resources from MPN

In addition to our regularly scheduled November program, I’m excited to say that this issue of MPN is also our on-site guide to the Powersports and Utility Vehicle Section for the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center Nov. 2-5, as well as the Dealer Update series of powersports workshops Nov. 1-2 at the Renaissance Hotel in Las Vegas.

Check out the entire SEMA exhibitor lineup as well as the schedule of Dealer Update programming starting on page 26 of this issue.
Because we’re dedicated to dealer education, MPN is backing the Dealer Update series of workshops. In that vein, we’re introducing our new “Tech Tips” column this month. This monthly department targeted at your service staff will help techs overcome notoriously tough service jobs. Our goal is to cover a wide variety of service issues and units with this in-depth content provided by the master wrenches at Cyclepedia.

We want to know what service issues are giving you a headache. Email me at [email protected] with your service department nightmares, and a solution to your problem could be featured in the pages on MPN in 2011.

It’s hard to believe that this is the last regular issue of 2010 — it’s been a wonderful year for MPN, and we’re just getting warmed up!

Keep your eyes peeled in early December for the 2011 MPN Buyer’s Guide. Called the industry bible by some, this comprehensive industry guide has a full listing of distributors and manufacturers with a searchable product section. There’s a good chance the 2010 version is sitting on your desk right now, but did you know you can search the MPN Buyer’s Guide online anytime? Visit www.motorcycleproductnews.com and click on “Buyer’s Guide” for up-to-date product sourcing information anytime, anywhere.

While you won’t get another regular issue of MPN until the first week of January, keep your browser pointed to our website for fresh daily content with news and product updates as well as exclusive online features including our Holiday Gift Guide.

2011 will also bring more fresh content to the pages of MPN. Starting in January, we’ll introduce a monthly finance and insurance column. What F&I issues are you facing? Let us know, and we’ll get our new expert on the case!

We are consistently tweaking our content in print and online to deliver the business intelligence you need to succeed. We want to hear from you! What are we doing right and where are we missing the mark. Drop me a line, and let’s get talking about how we can make MPN an even better resource for your shop.

Colleen Brousil is the editor of Motorcycle Product News. Her monthly column, “The Road Ahead” explores issues facing dealers across the country.

Pre-Spring Fever

Spring is right around the corner, and much like January, February has continued to produce strengthening price metrics. While we've been very transparent about concerns over elevated levels of new and non-current inventory, average wholesale prices (AWP) through the lanes continue to improve, reflecting dealer sentiment and demand for pre-owned. With trades and street purchases becoming more difficult to source, the auction remains the dealers’ No. 1 source for used products.
