Honda Motor Co. has opened a proving ground for motorcycles and cars in Thailand’s Prachinburi province. It is Honda’s first facility in Asia outside of Japan.
The manufacturer’s regional division, Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., has invested $50 million to establish the Prachinburi Proving Ground, with eight test courses simulating various road conditions and terrains.
The Thailand facility marks the third country where Honda has proving grounds, after Japan and the United States. The new facility covers nearly 5 miles (8 km) of roads that will be used for cars and motorcycles, with various vehicle tests for handling, stability and overall performance carried out on regionally developed products, according to the company.
The proving ground also has lawns that will be used in the future to test Honda’s lawn care products.
