ChopperExchange, an American V-twin motorcycle classifieds website, has released their 2017 American V-twin Industry Pricing Report. The report compares data gathered from roughly 100,000 motorcycle listings on their website from 2016 Q3 – 2017 Q2. The data consists of listings from all American V-twin brands, but like the market the data is concentrated on perennial powerhouse brands like Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles.
The report shows a softening in demand within the American V-twin market within the past year. Asking prices have fallen by 1.5% and 1.2% for used and new bikes, respectively. Additionally, selling prices for all American V-twin motorcycles have fallen by 9% year-over-year. This is mostly driven by the pre-owned segment, where the spread between asking and selling price has increased to 15%. ChopperExchange has also seen a decrease in length of time to sell each motorcycle, and they now report that among those motorcycles that sell, half are sold within 66 days.
