Seasonal averages remain in line

NPA_MarketReportOctoberSeasonal Average Wholesale Pricing (AWP) stabilized further in October with signs of improvement in certain regions of the country. Metric Cruisers, Sport bikes and ATVs were up from the prior three-month average. MX bikes were flat and Domestic Cruisers were down 3%.

Average wholesale prices overall are still trailing last year, primarily due to the older average model age being offered this year. Metric Cruisers increasing in value is a welcome turnabout from continued declines in prior months. Side-by-Side pricing was up from the prior three-month average and last year as well.

PWC and Snowmobile pricing were both up from the prior three-month period and last year, though their pricing can be volatile month-to-month. The average condition of units sold remained fairly static and seasonality behavior for the month was consistent with prior years.

When compared to NADA Clean Wholesale values, wholesale pricing trends remained generally in-line with seasonal averages, with some variance among categories. Metric Cruisers have improved notably in relation to book values over the last month.

The mix of volume amongst product categories appears to be shifting in Q4, with an increase in Domestic Cruisers and ATVs sold compared to the other product types. This may be partly the result of Domestic Cruiser dealers being influenced by OEM incentives to encourage new unit sales over used.

Overall wholesale volume sold declined slightly from the prior month as compared to the typical uptick seen in October, but the variance is slight and will most likely climb in November due to a longer retail selling season.
