MedjetAssist Advocates For Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

In honor of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, from May 1 - 31, MedjetAssist, the premier global air-medical transport membership program, is providing smart riders with savings on heightened safety - up to $65 off annual and multi-year motorcycle transfer protection memberships.

Whether experiencing the thrill of racing or taking in backcountry sights, motorcyclists of all kinds enjoy the freedom and adventure of the great open road. But even when strapped with a helmet, riders still face physical and financial dangers should an accident occur.  In honor of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, from May 1 – 31, MedjetAssist, the premier global air-medical transport membership program, is providing smart riders with savings on heightened safety – up to $65 off annual and multi-year motorcycle transfer protection memberships.

According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 1.2 million people were treated in U.S. emergency rooms for non-fatal motorcycle-related injuries over the last decade. Transporting a motorcyclist and his/her bike home can cost tens of thousands of dollars from where they were injured. Since its inception in 2007, Medjet has saved its members $650,000 in motorcycle and medical transport costs with its Motorcycle Transfer Protection program.

Take Larry Meeker for example. In 2013 he was hospitalized in Hershey, PA after sustaining multiple traumatic injuries in a motorcycle crash. After initial stabilization, Mr. Meeker was transferred to his home hospital in Fleming Island, Florida for continued care and rehabilitation. While the transport cost was over $10,000, Mr. Meeker’s out-of-pocket costs (along with the return of his motorcycle) were zero because of his Medjet membership.

If a Medjet member is hospitalized more than 150 miles from home, Medjet will arrange an air-medical transfer to the hospital of choice in the member’s home country. There are no health restrictions, co-pays or cost limitations and zero additional charges after a membership fee is paid. And, for an extra $35 per year, motorcyclists can ensure a no-cost return of their bike from anywhere in North America.

This May and always, Medjet supports the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Quick Tips for riders, encouraging them to be more detectable to car drivers by wearing a brightly colored helmet and easy-to-see riding gear that stands out, using the headlight, and taking an approved rider training course to learn how to maneuver the motorcycle in emergencies.
