AMA Seeks Support Ahead of Congressional Lead Law Hearing

The American Motorcyclist Association is supporting Congress' effort to address the lead ban issue for youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs, but is still concerned with how Congress may amend the language of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008.

The U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade of the Committee on Energy and Commerce is set to hold a hearing to review the impact of the recent legislation on Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) resources and its ability to protect consumers.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) says it supports Congress’ effort to address the lead ban issue for youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs, but is still concerned with how Congress may amend the language of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008.

The AMA would like supporters to contact their representative and encourage him or her to support H.R. 412, the Kids Just Want to Ride Act of 2011, which would exempt youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs from the lead content limits in the CPSIA.

Contact information is available at www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com under "Issues and Legislation > Rights." Also, a pre-written letter has been provided for supporters to send immediately by following the "Take Action" option.

More information on the CPSIA, H.R. 412 and what the AMA has been doing to fight the ban on youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs can be found by clicking here.

If you are interested in circulating a petition to change the Lead Law, e-mail the AMA’s Grassroots Team at [email protected] and use "Lead Law Petition" in the subject line.
