The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) is partnering with Colorado State Patrol to raise rider education awareness by offering non-riders a chance to experience riding a motorcycle and current riders a chance to check their skills. This free event will be held with Grand Junction Harley-Davidson on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mesa Mall, and it is anticipated to be the first of several such events across the state.
“Whether you’re moto-curious or a current rider, everyone is invited to come out to MSF RIDE Day,” said Corey Eastman, director of rider education expansion with the MSF. “This free event is a fun way to introduce folks to rider training, and we look forward to having Colorado as the first to offer RIDE Day events at motorcycle training schools across the state.”
“We’re excited to partner with the MSF for this event,” said Captain Matt Ozanic of the Colorado State Patrol. “Motorcycle season is fast approaching, so you need to be prepared for the adventures ahead. Rider training is a great investment to help you protect yourself and other highway users.”
Colorado uses the MSF RiderCourse curriculum as a state license waiver program. Those without motorcycling experience who want to learn to ride and earn their endorsement can sign up to take the Basic RiderCourse. Colorado also offers one-day MSF curricula for experienced riders looking for advanced training. Those license waiver courses can be found at comost.com.
“MSF RIDE Day gives folks the opportunity to experience their local Motorcycle Safety Foundation recognized training range with little commitment and no pressure,” Eastman said. “With options for first-time to experienced riders, this event allows anyone with a motorcycle interest to see how proper training can benefit them.”
RIDE Day is free for all participants and features:
- MOTO Intro: A first-ride experience for non-riders. Helmets and motorcycles will be provided. MSF-certified coaches will help each step of the way.
- SKILLS Check: An assessment of skills for experienced riders using a variety of exercise components. Riders are encouraged to bring and use their own motorcycles. MSF-certified coaches will be there to help with tips.
All riders must bring or wear:
- A helmet that is Department of Transportation-compliant (helmets will be provided if needed)
- Long-sleeve shirt or jacket
- Long, ankle-length pants (no holes or tears)
- Over-the-ankle, low-heeled footwear
- Full-fingered gloves (some gloves will be available if needed).
RIDE Day will be at Mesa Mall in the south Cabela’s Lot, 2424 US-6, Grand Junction, 81505.
