IJSBA reposted a change of venue on Aug. 18, for the 2018 National Championships from Watkins Glen to Plattsburgh, New York. The scheduled Aug. 25-26 IJSBA National Championships was relocated after receiving news of flooding at Watkins Glen.
According to East Coast Watercross on Aug. 18, “East Coast Watercross received the heartbreaking news that their beloved annual Tour Stop in Watkins Glen, NY, has fallen victim to Mother Nature’s latest fury and is flooded to the extent they are no longer permitted to hold the IJSBA National Championship on Aug. 25-26.”
East Coast Watercross noted that a bad rain storm on Tuesday, Aug. 14, left six inches of rain in less than three hours. Seneca Lake officials reported that a large amount of debris from the storm accumulated in the lake and would pose a major risk to boaters and racers.
Over the past two years, East Coast Watercross and the city of Plattsburgh, NY have developed a relationship that resulted in the successful relocation of the 2018 National Championships.
The new 2018 IJSBA National Championship event location is: Plattsburgh City Beach (at the Crete Center), 4 Beach Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
The location is billed as the largest fresh water beach in America, with scenic views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
