Colorado State Patrol to Coordinate Motorcycle Operator Safety Training Program

“As riding season gets underway in Colorado, we want to remind riders that operating a motorcycle is a big responsibility that must be taken seriously,” said Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the CSP.

The Colorado State Patrol is the new lead coordinator of the Motorcycle Operator Safety Training program, which promotes motorcycle safety awareness and supports training courses, including the state’s license waiver program.

“As riding season gets underway in Colorado, we want to remind riders that operating a motorcycle is a big responsibility that must be taken seriously,” said Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the CSP. “The first step you can take to help ensure your safety, and the safety of other riders, is to get properly trained.”

A new program coordinator has been hired to manage the MOST program for the CSP.

While MOST provides management and oversight of the MOST Basic Rider Courses, the training of students is outsourced to private training centers, which must follow MOST’s curriculum and administrative standards.

The MOST program includes teaching students about the effects of alcohol and drugs while riding, as well as having the right attitudes, habits, knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate a motorcycle. MOST also encourages all riders to wear all protective gear, at all times.

“The Colorado State Patrol is honored to serve the motorcycling community and encourages riders of all skill levels to continue in lifelong learning,” Packard said.
