Motorcycle Mechanics, Bike Fit, Industry Issues On Tap at Revved-Up Women Expo

These topics and more will be among 16 workshops offered at Revved-Up Women Texas Motorcycle Expo April 28-30, at Retama Park near San Antonio.

Want to know how to keep your motorcycle running in top condition? How your helmet should fit? What are the best beginner bikes for women? These topics and more will be among 16 workshops offered at Revved-Up Women Texas Motorcycle Expo April 28-30, at Retama Park near San Antonio.

“One in four motorcyclists on the road today is a woman. The Expo is designed to address their unique needs and questions using experts from the world of women’s’ motorcycling,” said Teresa Kelly, Revved-Up Women spokesperson.

Among the highlights will be two panel discussions among leading motorcycle media, industry executives and riders about whether brands are meeting the needs of women, and if not, how they might improve. Moderated by Genevieve Schmitt, editor and publisher of Women Riders Now and considered a leading voice in women’s motorcycling, the panel includes women executives from Polaris, Harley-Davidson, BMW, and motorcycle media.

“We know from talking to women that access to gear to try on and dealer knowledge about how women’s’ gear should fit is an issue. Heavy marketing to women who then aren’t properly trained before they ride is another. Open dialogue about these and other issues adds to the healthy growth of women’s motorcycling,” Kelly said.

Other workshops and presenters include:

  • “How Not to Skin Yourself Alive” – Brittany Morrow, crash victim, motorcycle gear and fit specialist and founder of Rock the Gear safety initiative.
  • “Motorcycle Mechanics 101 and Beyond” – Krystal Hess, owner, Ricochet Custom and founder of  Motorcycle Missions.
  • “How to Choose the Best Bike for You” – Bike fit and safety experts with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
  • “Paying it Forward” – Learn how motorcycles and motorcyclists are addressing the issues of PTSD in veterans and first responders, military sexual trauma and organ donor awareness.
  • “Benefits of Joining a Women’s Riding Groups” – Jen Dalton, chapter co-founder of The Litas, the largest women’s motorcycle group in the world, will moderate a panel discussion among Texas rider groups.

She’z Moto “KickStart Training” for beginner, experienced and advanced riders will be offered for the first time in Texas at Revved-Up Women. The program, developed by champion international racer Shelina Moreda, uses dirt bikes to introduce first-timers to the sport in a way that addresses qualms many women have about riding, and can improve the skills of riders of any age. The 90-minute sessions include bikes and gear for women and children as young as ten, if they know how to ride a bicycle.
