The Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) non-profit organization dedicated to creating and protecting off-highway routes for dual sport and adventure motorcycle travel, is the recipient of the 2017 AMA Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Award. The American Motorcyclist Association recognized BDR for making outstanding contributions to the motorcycling community, and for creating good publicity for motorcyclists.

The Award was presented to the BDR team by Roger Pattison, AMA Board Member, at the ADV Expo & World Premiere of the latest NVBDR movie in Las Vegas, NV on February 16, 2017.

“The BDR team, including Director of Operations Inna Thorn and Director of Route Development Rob Watt, is honored to receive the Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Award,” said Paul Guillien, president of Backcountry Discovery Routes. “We know the AMA does most of the heavy lifting to protect the interest of us motorcyclists, so we’re over the moon to be recognized by them for doing our small part to show the brighter side of motorcycling. We are humbled by the success our small nonprofit organization has achieved over the last few years pursuing its mission to create and preserve off-highway riding opportunities for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles.”

Past recipients of the AMA Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Award include such notable individuals as Harrison Ford, Dan Aykroyd, Jay Leno, and Malcolm Smith.

Since 2010 BDR has created seven trans-state routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Their latest release, the Nevada Backcountry Discovery Route (NVBDR), is produced in partnership with the American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and TravelNevada, Nevada Division of Tourism to promote adventure motorcycling in rural Nevada.
