Apparel Pro: Gift Giving

ap_1[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hristmas came early this year, at least at my local chain drug store, where they started overflowing the aisles with merry accoutrement in the last days of September. By the time this column hits print, I’m sure your dealership has started stocking your shelves with stuffers. If you weren’t able to make it to AIMExpo last month, I found a couple of items I am sure will be of interest to your customers.

At $79.95 (MSRP) the Scorpion Tempest glove tops my list of stocking stuffers. Aptly named, it’s a waterproof insulated glove with a unique double gauntlet, which prevents water from running down your sleeve and getting your hands wet. One gauntlet goes inside your sleeve, and the other goes over your jacket creating an effective barrier to water egress. The Tempest is also insulated with 100g of Thinsulate to make sure your hands stay warm; the palm does not have insulation so as to allow heated grips to be felt.

Speaking of innovative designs, Joe Rocket’s Nova boots have a dual zipper entry system, which ensures ease of access. Made from water-resistant, split-grain leather with internal reinforcements at the ankle, toe and heel. The Nova boots also have a non-slip sole, reflective piping and a molded rubber shifter zone. They only come in black, and at $124.99 they make a great gift for men.

On the stocking stuffer end of the spectrum ($19.99), you can’t beat Dr.Atoms neck tubes, which are designed and crafted in Italy. The soft, stretchable microfiber material replaces bandannas, handkerchiefs and balaclavas nationwide, and what makes them unique in this popular product segment is that Dr.Atoms are cut from a unique, bi-elastic material that allows it to stretch in any direction. The microfiber is antimicrobial and has similar properties to athletic wear; the best part is they’re available in designs from cute (Hello Kitty) to cammo to country.

MTA Distributing just started importing the SIXS line of technical riding (under) apparel. Very popular in Europe, SIXS’s patented technical fabric consists of a unique carbon fiber weave, and is designed and produced in Italy. Garments in the line include shorts, jerseys, long sleeve uppers and lowers, plus several varieties of technical athletic socks. With all items under $100, the coming holidays are a good time to stock up.

ap_2Last but certainly not least, Furygan and its big cat logo caught my eye at AIMExpo. The leather jackets the French company has just brought to the U.S. market are stunningly stylish and tactilely delicious. Styled for both men and women, they meet and exceed strict EU guidelines for safety, and the best part is they don’t break the bank. This apparel line has me all shook up thinking of buying a motorcycle to match the jacket. Definitely stock these if your dealership wants some ooo-la-la over the holidays.
