Hundreds of classic motorcycle enthusiasts will gather at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State for its 10th annual Curtiss Classic Motorcycle Weekend, Aug. 1-2. Admission is free for the outdoor display and museum tours are reduced to $6 for anyone arriving on a motorcycle. The museum is located at 8419 State Route 54 in Hammondsport and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The event attracts history buffs and motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the country for a bike show and swap meet featuring motorcycle and antique engine displays. Sunday, Aug. 2 motorcyclists can participate in several rides around Keuka Lake. Motorcycle and food vendors will be set up on the museum grounds both days.

Inside, the museum will feature a special exhibit of antique and classic motorcycles through the month of August, including a reproduction of Curtiss’ 1907 World Record V8 Motorcycle that earned him the title of Fastest Man on Earth.

Glenn H. Curtiss was among the earliest American motorcycle manufacturers. He went into production in 1902, a year earlier than Harley-Davidson. He held several motorcycle speed records and the World Record he established in 1907 stood until 1930.

Curtiss is best known for his pioneering work in aviation. He is considered to be the founder of the American aircraft industry and the father of U.S. naval aviation. The museum contains a priceless collection relating to early aviation, motorcycles, Recreational Vehicles (RVs), and local history. The museum is open year round.

Motorcycle Weekend is sponsored by Odd Ball Old Dog Cycles, a Western and Central New York motorcycle group.
