Gibbs Sports Amphibians, Inc. Issues Recall on Certain Quadski and Quadski XL Models

Gibbs Sports Amphibians, Inc., makers of the Quadski, have recently announced a recall on certain Quadski and Quadski XL models where the company discovered an issue with the handlebars.

Gibbs found that the handlebar can fail while the vehicle is in operation, causing the operator to lose control of the steering and braking system of the vehicle, posing a risk of injury.

“We had three instances of issues with our handlebars, all at our testing facility in Florida,” said Tom Berchulc, vice president of marketing for Gibbs. “The three units that were tested were well beyond the life expectancy of the unit itself, but for the safety of our customers we went ahead and contacted the CPSC to move forward with a fix. We have not seen or heard of any issues in the field with actual customers. We are just being extra cautious so customers feel confident in the quality of the product and that they are being taken care of.”

This recall includes Gibbs’ Quadski, which is a one-seater and Quadski XL, which is a two-seater. The products are high-speed amphibious vehicles that are an ATV on land, and also operate in water. The recalled vehicles have HIN numbers ranging from US-GSA601J213 though US-GSAJ1048C414 on Quadski and US-GSAJ5001J213 though US-GSAM5203H415 on Quadski XL. HIN numbers are printed on a plate located on the right rear corner of the vehicle. Brand and model names are printed on the back panel and on the side of the vehicle.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact an authorized dealer for a repair at no cost. The company says the recall affects 320 units, and it is moving to a different handlebar and different material to fix the breakage issue it saw with its three units during testing.

Customers can contact Gibbs Sports Amphibians at (877) 230-0888 or online at www.quadski.com and click on Quadski or Quadski XL, go to the bottom of the page and click on “Recall” for more information.
