Off-highway Riding Restrictions May Be Lifted on 43 Million Acres

U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), joined by other lawmakers, has introduced a bill to free up almost 43 million acres of public land that now may be off-limits to off-highway riding, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.

New Study: Motorcycle Deaths Decline Slightly But Concerns Develop

A report released by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reveals that motorcycle fatalities declined in 2010 by at least 2 percent. Based upon preliminary data, GHSA projects that motorcycle fatalities declined from 4,465 in 2009 to 4,376 or less in 2010. The projection is based upon data from 50 states and the District of Columbia. The decline comes on the heels of a dramatic 16 percent drop in 2009, which followed 11 straight years of steady increases in motorcycle deaths.

Virginia Launches Nation’s First Rider Alert Cards for Motorcyclists

Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) and Bon Secours Virginia Health System, in partnership with Motorcycle Virginia, Inc., have launched a new program designed to save the lives of injured motorcyclists. The program provides free identification data cards that will help first responders provide rapid and accurate medical assistance to riders involved in accidents.

CPSC Terminates ATV Action Plan for SunL Group Youth ATVs

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the termination of the All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Action Plan for SunL Group, Inc., of Irving, Texas. As of March 30, 2011, importers and distributors cannot import or distribute any ATV subject to the SunL Group ATV Action Plan. The company was an importer and distributor of gas and electric scooters, dirt bikes, ATVs and go-karts.
