Yamaha has unveiled the new YFZ450 and the all-new Grizzly 300 2WD utility ATV. Both machines combine performance with the company’s value pricing strategy.
YFZ450
The 2012 YFZ450 is priced at $6,799 – approximately $200 less than the original YFZ in 2004 and more than $1,200 less than the closest competing 450cc model – making it the most affordable high-performance 450 ATV on the market today, according to Yamaha.
“The YFZ’s price is aimed squarely at the many sport ATV enthusiasts who have been affected by the down economy and may not be in a position to purchase today’s premium-priced 450-class quads,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV and SxS group marketing manager.
The new YFZ features an updated 449cc liquid-cooled, double overhead cam four-stroke, five valve engine featuring 95mm bore and 63.4mm stroke. Yamaha engineers significantly increased the low- and mid-range power (compared with the previous 2009 YFZ450 model) by revising the cam profile and timing and developing new ignition mapping. The new larger 42mm Mikuni BSR carburetor with throttle position sensor maintains the top-end performance while improving throttle response and significantly reducing throttle effort.
The new YFZ450 will start arriving at Yamaha dealers by the end of September, and it launches into an immediate pool of parts and accessories – more than 90 GYTR items from Yamaha and countless aftermarket products.
Grizzly 300
The all-new Grizzly 300 2WD utility ATV combines best-in-class technology with a value price at $4,099. This new light utility ATV has a smooth and powerful engine and is the only model in its class with a fully automatic dual range transmission.
The Grizzly 300 is powered by a 287cc single overhead cam four stroke engine. Its class-exclusive liquid cooling provides precise temperature control and long engine life even in extreme environments. At the center of its lightweight and durable chassis is a power plant with a 32mm carburetor that delivers smooth power.
“This all-new Grizzly 300 is built for the farmer who needs a durable, dependable light utility vehicle or rider who wants a fun two-wheel-drive recreational ATV,” said Nessl.
The durable engine and dual range transmission offers Hi range for light duty and trail riding plus Low range for tougher chores and towing. This bear can pull more than 720 pounds and carry more than 140 combined pounds on the ATV’s front and rear racks. It features separate hydraulic front and rear disc brakes and 22-inch Maxxis tires with a rugged lug pattern for optimum traction and durability.
Yamaha says the all new Grizzly 300 will be available in December 2011 and comes in Steel Blue and Hunter Green.
