Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence wrapped up his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX Class Championship one race early with a second-place finish inside Gillette Stadium. The enthusiastic New England crowd cheered the popular 18-year-old racer from Australia to his first Supercross championship in his third year contesting for the title.
When the gate dropped for the 15-minute-plus-one-lap main event, Lawrence was off to a mid-pack start amid the 22-racer field. The Honda rider then began his march forward through the pack. The only other rider still with a mathematical chance at the title, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s RJ Hampshire, was ahead of Lawrence and also moving forward. With approximately five minutes left on the race clock, Hampshire tangled with another rider while trying to pass for the lead. Lawrence then sat third and therefore had the title wrapped. But the racer in him pushed, and he nabbed another spot before the checkered flag flew to finish in second place on the day.
Lawrence earned the 2022 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West title with speed, consistency and aggressive riding. Lawrence never finished off the podium throughout the season. His division has one race remaining: an East/West showdown event that puts riders from both divisions on the track together competing for points. One of those 250SX West racers is Jett Lawrence’s older brother and teammate, Team Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence, who sits in championship contention in his own series which hold its penultimate round next weekend in Denver.
