Dustin ‘Battle Axe’ Jones Signs with Maxxis

Dustin “Battle Axe” Jones, whose passion for racing led him away from a career in mechanical engineering to a life winning in major series, including Best in the Desert, will ride for Maxxis in 2021.

Dustin “Battle Axe” Jones, whose passion for racing led him away from a career in mechanical engineering to a life winning in major series, including Best in the Desert, will ride for Maxxis in 2021. As he competes in Best in the Desert 2021, Jones and his Can-Am Factory Team will ride Maxxis’ new Razr XT.

After giving it a test run, Jones was especially impressed with the Razr XT’s acceleration and cornering. “I was blown away how much more capable the XT was in the sand. We could come to a complete stop on a significant grade on a sand dune and go wide-open throttle and accelerate to the top of the hill. I was very impressed with the handling/turning of the XT. It was noticeable in the sand, gravel washes, but MOST noticeable on the hardpacked. It almost felt like it got traction like the short course tire and would actually force me over in my seat because it was hooking so well,” he said. “This is a tire that I would be happy to run in a desert race.”

More details about Jones’ off-road racing plans will be unveiled later this month in the lead-up to his first race of the year, the Ultra 4 racing “King of the Hammers.”
