Within the realm of off-road enthusiasts, there’s a name that resounds with ingenuity and craftsmanship – Jimmy’s 4×4. This exceptional enterprise has etched its identity by meticulously crafting specialized off-road vehicles that seamlessly fuse rugged durability with state-of-the-art engineering.
For being such a reputable name in the off-road community, Jimmy’s 4×4 has a rather small presence on the internet. If anything, that serves as a testament to how highly regarded a powersports business can become simply from their quality of work and good old word of mouth.
Each vehicle that emerges from the workshops of Jimmy’s 4×4 serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Every element, from the robust suspension systems to the commanding engines, is honed to perfection. From buggies to rock crawlers, each vehicle is completely unique.
Many of the vehicles that come out of Jimmy’s 4×4 are used in Ultra4 racing, one of the biggest 4×4 off-road racing series with over 300 race teams. Each National Ultra4 series race is a qualifier for the King of The Hammers race for the upcoming year. The defining characteristics of Ultra4 are that cars can be built in an unlimited number of combinations using parts from many different companies. These vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, are capable of speeds over 100+ mph and contain gear ratios as low as 100:1 for technical rock crawling.
One of the trademarks of Jimmy’s 4×4 lies in its dedication to customization. Diverging from mass-produced counterparts bound by standardization, this enterprise thrives on diverse solutions, and clients are empowered to handpick everything.
The MPN team recently came across a 2015 Jimmy’s Podium Buggy featuring some sweet upgrades that was sold by National Powersport Auctions (NPA) at their Sacramento location. Established in 1990, NPA is the world’s largest provider of powersport vehicle remarketing services. They typically auction off motorcycles, marine vehicles, ATVs/UTVs, and RVs, but they occasionally get unique vehicles in the warehouse like this Jimmy’s Buggy.

“Everything that comes to NPA gets an in-depth condition report,” Austin Robinson of NPA said. “We have different templates depending on the vehicle category – every unit goes through an inspection process where someone will check the frame, engine, previous damage, etc. That goes online along with pictures so that dealers can review everything and evaluate how much money they want to spend on the unit. Everything is on a max scale of 90, and this unit received an 82.
“This is the first purpose-built, competition level rock crawler we’ve gotten. They basically build the chassis and upgrade the suspension around the engine, which is a GM LS3 6.2L V8 crate engine.”
The buggy sports a silver, vintage Ford Bronco body that gives it quite an aesthetically pleasing look. As it’s a rock crawler, it’s lifted extra high off the ground thanks to PSC Motorsports hydraulic steering with long-travel suspension.
The engine, which makes 430 hp stock, but likely has performance components installed, is paired to a Turbo 400 transmission and Atlas 2 transfer case. As for other features, the buggy sports Spider 9 front and rear axles and Nitto Trail Grappler 42x1350R20LT tires.
If you have a motorcycle, ATV, UTV, snowmobile or jet ski you’d like to feature in MPN’s Ride of the Week series, please email MPN Content Director Greg Jones at [email protected].
