[dropcap]A[/dropcap]MA’s Vintage Motorcycle Days attracts all kinds, from the newbie enthusiast to the seasoned, hardcore, vintage bike afficianado… and there are plenty of industry folks in between. It’s more than an event – it’s a happening. This year, Suzuki has stepped up to be the title sponsor. It’s not just because it’s in our backyard that we are excited – Mid-Ohio is only an hour south of us – Vintage Days are several smaller events rolled into one location and there’s really something for everyone from dealers who may want to set up a small tent to sell old bikes and slow moving stock to aftermarket manufacturers or your next door neighbor looking to buy that Honda CB on the cheap.
Suzuki support is fitting this year because of its long and rich history in AMA Superbike competition. From July 8-10 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, that history will be on full display as part of celebrating 40 Years of AMA Superbikes. It’s perhaps even more fitting because Wes Cooley, 2016 AMA Vintage Motorcycle
Days Grand Marshal, rode a Suzuki GS1000 to his first AMA Superbike Championship in 1979. In 1980, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer successfully defended that title for Suzuki in one of the most thrilling AMA Superbike seasons ever.
Iron Pony Motorsports/Pony Powersports has signed on again as sponsor of the infield stage. In addition to hosting event announcements, interviews and awards, the stage will feature live music for much of the weekend.
While Vintage Motorcycle Days’ primary function is as a fundraiser for the non-profit AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, the event includes vintage and post-vintage motocross, trials, hare scrambles, vintage road racing and mini road racing in the upper paddock. A half-mile dirt track event will be held at the nearby Ashland County Fairgrounds. And if that doesn’t sastisfy your vintage urge, the rows upon rows of swap meet vendors and parts surely will.
Vendor applications will be processed through Jun. 30 and additional on-site. For more: www.americanmotorcyclist.com
