Apparel Pro: Winter Jackets

Without the right jacket, snowmobile and powersports riders will limit their time outdoors and ultimately spend the season longing for the summer to return.

Now that summer is officially over, it’s time to prepare for the upcoming season, and with that, comes snow. Without the right jacket, snowmobile and powersports riders will limit their time outdoors and ultimately spend the season longing for the summer to return, so it is optimal to pair the right jacket to the wearer.

A quality winter jacket will last the rider more than a few winters, so many consumers are willing to pay for longevity and protection from the elements. But for those customers who are cost conscious, there are a range of options to support both the rider and their wallet without making any exceptions to durability, comfort and features.

It is very common for winter jackets to have layers. The outer shell is fitted with waterproof material, leaving the second, internal layer for insulation. Layered jackets offer the rider the ability to shed or add layers if the weather becomes temperamental.

Another feature on winter jackets are vents. Vents help improve airflow without having to remove layers and can easily be opened or closed with gloves on by the pull of a zipper.

The most important aspect of winter clothing that sets it apart from other seasonal apparel is the powder skirt and gaiters. These elastic panels inside of the garment prevent snow and rain from creeping in and act as an extra layer of protection to improve rider comfort.

Winter jackets come in a range of colors, but rarely will you see a jacket in white, which is quite obvious that you don’t want the rider lost in the snow. Black is the most common color, with primaries and neon panels making a plain jacket come to life. Reflective piping helps with visibility and can’t be missed while on the trail if a rider is concerned about not being seen when the sun goes down.

Customers will always be on the lookout for zipped pockets to keep their valuables and electronics safe and secure during inclement weather and rough riding. Added features like google cleaning cloths and moisture wicking liners and adjustable wrist closures help seal the deal for riders who are looking for a jacket that has it all.

Make sure your dealership stocks the jackets that customers are looking for this winter to keep riders on the trail throughout the entire season.
