On Saturday, March 31, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Ryan Villopoto made Supercross history as he secured his second career Monster Energy Supercross class championship. By clinching the championship at Round 13, he entered the record books as the first rider to secured championship with four rounds remaining.
While Villopoto was the earliest to ever win a Supercross championship, he was also added to a prestigious list of only five riders to ever earn back-to-back championships. Since the 2007 Supercross season, riders have been attempting to defending their championships, and now Villopoto has successfully secured his second career Supercross class championship.
“It’s huge,” said Villopoto. “There is a lot of hard work that went into this, and I am only one piece of the pie. The whole Monster Energy Kawasaki team has worked very hard all year to help me make this happen.”
One of Villopoto’s sponsors, Thor Motocross, has extended congratulations to Ryan on all his success so far in 2012.
