New Models Hope to Revive the Triumph Brand
[dropcap]S[/dropcap]hortly after we received the press release announcing that Triumph was going to be touring the country with two semis full of the new Bonnevilles, we got a phone call from the local Triumph dealer (Okay, it was a robo call, but it was still better than the kind of robo calls we normally receive) saying that the tour was stopping by from 6-9 pm. We didn’t even let the message finish before we were headed out the door! El Nino or not, winter in the midwest is tough to get through without a little inspiration.
The new Triumph Bonneville motorcycle family looks like it has the right stuff to revive the hallowed brand. Variations now include the Street Twin, Bonneville T120, Bonneville T120 Black, Thruxton and Thruxton R. According to Triumph these five bikes were redeveloped from the ground up with three new engines and all-new chassis and suspension systems to provide “the optimal modern classic riding experience.”
“We’re incredibly excited about the new Bonneville family of motorcycles and can’t wait to show off these premium products to both our dealer partners and enthusiasts,” said Matt Sheahan, COO of Triumph Motorcycles America. “Not only will the dealership staff get to dive into these products for training, but we’re also going to be holding some great launch events for consumers. Nearly every major urban market will get to interact with the brand and get to look at these all-new iconic motorcycles.”
Talking to Steve Bidlack, Triumph’s Executive Director, Client Services, he said that they plan on making a big splash this year with these new models with a multi-city stop for the Bonneville Reborn Tour. North America is the largest market for Triumph Motorcycles globally and Bidlack noted 2015 was a landmark year. Highlights from 2015 include the fact that Triumph retailed 53,869 units last year – a record number for the company. Closer to home, Triumph Motorcycles America was the #1 Euro brand for Q1 2015 in North America for the 500cc+ on-road and dual sport categories. This past
September saw a record number for the month in North America as well. To make sure this sales success continues, Bidlack also noted Triumph offers an industry first 24/7 customer support team to dealers and consumers with call-in and live-chat support available.
On Northern Ohio Ducati Triumph’s Facebook page announcing the event, it simply said: “We have the Truxton R!” Indeed the Thruxton R looks to be every cafe racer’s dream bike, however, the Street Twin also got plenty of looks and comments from a healthy crowd on hand for the event that included snacks and refreshments and a live band! Not bad for a Thursday night in December!
