Sumax, known worldwide in the Harley aftermarket for its 100% made in the U.S.A. products and services, is up for sale due to founder, Kirk Van Scoten, considering retirement after 30 years. He is looking for a group or persons who have the same passion for the industry to buy the business.

Kirk Van Scoten, founder and owner of Sumax Cycle Products, is considering retirement after 30 years. Sumax is known worldwide in the Harley aftermarket for its 100% made in the U.S.A. products and services. Kirk is looking for a group or persons who have the same passion for the industry.

 

Products:

Sumax designs and master distributes Taylor spark plug wires and battery cables known for their color assortment and high-performance features.

 

Sumax fiberglass products include a wide assortment of fenders and saddle bags. A self sufficient department creates its own tooling and molds for production. The new line of saddlebag brackets let you create your own Softail, Dyna and Sportster baggers. The design allows the customer to use Harley bags or Sumax’s own bags. Sumax does sub contract work for some of the biggest names in the business like Arlen Ness.

 

Services:

Sumax is one of the original companies to offer powdercoating exclusively for motorcycles through its Special Effects Powder Coating business. It has been powder coating for 30 years. Sumax’s prep and painting techniques have produced a non-fading, smooth-as-glass finish.

 

Sumax products are distributed by Drag Specialities, Biker’s Choice, Mid USA, Tedd Cycle and TEC in the U.S. European distributors include Zodiac, Motorcycle Storehouse and Custom Chrome Europe. Parts Max distributes Sumax products throughout Asia.

 

In 2009, Sumax was awarded the Pollution Prevention Achievement Award by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute.

 

Sale of the business includes an 11,000 sq foot clear span steel building located in an industrial park, state of the art equipment, tooling, molds and established accounts. Kirk Van Scoten will also stay on for a period of time to ensure success.
