We first told you about Strategic’s Motorcycle Scan Tool back in our August service tool round-up. The tool can diagnose faults on motorcycles from just about any manufacturer and comes with a wide range of cables to connect it to the units you service. Once you connect it, you can glean a wide range of diagnostic information from the unit’s ECU. It can also perform other functions such as unlocking the immobilizer, making injection adjustments, adjusting the throttle valve position sensor, making idling adjustments and more.
Fred Christopher of the city central garage in Newport News, New Jersey, puts the tool to the test to help keep the city’s boys in blue on the two-wheeled beat. ”We’re not aware of any other tools that can do what this one can with the same capability and depth of coverage,” says Christopher. ” It’s very easy to use,” he continues, ”Just plug it in and it automatically finds the model; It works really fast.” While this tool loses some points on the home tech column (like so many of the most useful shop tools do), Christopher gives this tool a very high rating, and I can say, having seen the scan tool in action, that it really is very easy to use with an intuitive interface, making it an invaluable add-on to any aftermarket shop, and presenting a true value compared to stocking up on factory tool after factory tool.
