In the Q3 2021 Powersports Market Insights, analysts from J.D. Power Specialty Valuation Services report that the steep value increases of the first half of 2021 have leveled out; however, pricing for motorcycles and side-by-sides remains at historical levels. The parts shortages continue and will constrain production of motorcycles and side-by-sides into 2022.
“Sellers have the advantage entering the holiday season, as it’s hard to find new motorcycles and side-by-sides to purchase,” said Lenny Sims, vice president of business development and strategy at J.D. Power Specialty Valuation Services. “Motorcycle pricing in September-October period widened the gap compared to the same time period last year. The most recent 10 model years of sportbike values are averaging 21.7% higher, and cruisers are averaging 18.6% higher. Side-by-sides are notably stronger than last year, with utility models bringing 25.3% more revenue year over year and sport models bringing in 31.6% more.”
Major findings in the free quarterly report include:
- Year-over-year used price increases continued among powersports categories through three quarters of 2021.
- Traffic views across all segments declined July to September 2021.
- Cruisers are the most searched with 27% of traffic views.
