Pirelli Shifts Focus to 2022 AMA Pro Motocross Championship

Pirelli will make its return to Lucas Oil Pro Motorcross Championship in 2022 starting on May 28 in Pala, California.

Pirelli Tire North America will make its return to the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship paddock. The 12-round series kicks off on Saturday, May 28 for the Fox Raceway National in Pala, California. Pirelli will have its 18-wheeler race transporter on-site at each event. Providing technical support and trackside assistance to all racers competing on SCORPION MX tires. The season opener at Fox Raceway will also welcome nine-time FIM World Champion Antonio Cairoli. He will compete under the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing tent on a Pirelli-equipped KTM 450 SX-F.

“I’m really excited to be in the U.S.,” said Cairoli. “It has always been a dream to race the Nationals and now we have the chance to do it so I’m really happy and looking forward to it.”

Cairoli and Pirelli have a long history of success together, capturing countless victories and six MXGP Titles together. After retiring from full-time racing at the end of 2021, he has committed to the first two rounds with the possibility of continuing throughout the summer.

“My relationship with Pirelli is really important because it’s an Italian brand and they have always supported me throughout my career,” Cairoli continued. “Being here in the U.S., I could run my own sponsors. They’ve been with me forever, and everybody knows it’s a super tire, so I’m really happy and proud to continue with their support.”

Pirelli remains true to its “we sell what we race, we race what we sell” motto. He offered anyone access to purchase the exact tires used by its professional riders and racing teams. This strategy has allowed Pirelli to focus on developing tires for motocross-specific tracks. And ensures that the consumer is receiving its latest technology and products.

“It’s going to be an exciting summer of racing in the Pro Motocross Championship,” said Nick Walton. “Our brand has continued to elevate its game these past couple of seasons and having nine-time World Champion Antonio Cairoli join us stateside is special. He’s one of the sport’s most decorated athletes and has a long history of winning with Pirelli across the world, which we hope is something that continues throughout his American tour this summer.”

There are a number of other teams joining Cairoli for this summer’s Pro Motocross Championship. They will be Muc-Off/FXR/Club MX Yamaha, BarX/Chaparral Suzuki, Firepower Honda and the Phoenix Racing Honda teams.

In addition to the race teams, Pirelli’s unwavering support and dedication to privateers throughout the paddock remains. As all racers who place inside of the top 30 in the 250 and 450 Classes will receive a FREE set of SCORPION MX tires at the following round. For racers who place outside of the top-30, Pirelli’s local trackside vendor will be on-hand to provide additional assistance.

Pirelli’s global motocross dominance remains unmatched with 76 Motocross World Championships that include riders such as defending MXGP World Champion Jeffrey Herlings, defending MX2 World Champion Tom Vialle, current MXGP World Championship leader Tim Gajser and nine-time World Champion Cairoli.

The SCORPION MX range will rely on the performance of three different soil applications for the upcoming 12-round season. With the SCORPION MX Soft which is intended for sand and mud, SCORPION MX32 MidSoft, which favors intermediate to soft soil, and SCORPION MX32 MidHard, which is designed for use on intermediate to hard soil.
