MIC Names New Senior Vice President Government Relations

Veteran legislative and communications strategist Scott Schloegel has joined the Motorcycle Industry Council as senior vice president, government relations, working in the association’s Washington, DC, office.

Veteran legislative and communications strategist Scott Schloegel has joined the Motorcycle Industry Council as senior vice president, government relations, working in the association’s Washington, DC, office. He most recently served as acting president and chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, having started work there in 2011.

Before that, Schloegel worked on Capitol Hill for 18 years, and has experience partnering on a variety of projects with senior officials on the Hill, at the White House and with a number of corporations and industry associations.

“We would be challenged to add someone to our government relations team with more relevant experience and capabilities than Scott Schloegel,” said Tim Buche, MIC president and CEO. “We’ll welcome Scott’s skills as he focuses his efforts on Capitol Hill, working with federal agencies on our industry’s behalf, representing our interests. Member surveys, and our most recent MIC Board of Directors strategic planning sessions, identified research and statistics and government relations, government affairs as the top priorities and we’ve now made key investments in both areas.”

Schloegel started on Oct. 1, at the MIC. He has vast experience in government, business development and speaking, and has worked in more than 20 countries across five continents. Before his seven years at the Export-Import Bank, he served as an investigator and professional staff member for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. Schloegel also served as district director and then chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan.

“Growing up in Michigan, I’ve ridden motorcycles and off-road recreation vehicles since 1975,” Schloegel said. “I look forward to putting my 25 years of government affairs experience to work advocating on behalf of the industry that brings enjoyment to millions of riders across the country each day.”

Schloegel will report to Buche, as will the MIC’s Manager, Federal Affairs, Callie Hoyt, and Manager, Government Relations, Phillip Lighty, who will oversee day-to-day operations in the MIC Government Relations Office, among other duties. Schloegel will also work closely with Erik Pritchard, president of the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association.
