Intermot: Connecting Motorcycle World with New Technologies

Market-ready, but also visionary ideas will show what is already possible today, and where the motorcycle journey will be taking us.

As a leading business and information platform, INTERMOT is continuously showcasing trends and topics that are moving the industry and the motorcycle community. One topic that is affecting all facets of life worldwide while bringing about profound changes is “digitization.”

The digital transformation is opening up great opportunities, new business models and more efficient management while setting new safety standards, ensuring faster communication channels and increasing rider’s driving pleasure. Exciting and forward-looking aspects that have long been the focus of work in the motorized two-wheeler industry. After all, digital technologies are transforming motorcycles and motorcycling. Safety-relevant components are becoming better and better while the growing demand for two wheeled comfort and communication is being optimized at the same time.

INTERMOT will be taking up these developments in the “Connected Motorcycle World” theme area in Cologne from 3 to Oct. 7.

Visitors can discover and try new technologies and digital applications in a conveniently located theme area. Market-ready, but also visionary ideas will show what is already possible today, and where the motorcycle journey will be taking us.

The “Connected Motorcycle World” theme area is located in the heart of INTERMOT in Hall 6, and is organized around five main themes:
– Connectivity Vehicle to Vehicle
– Connected Horizon and Head Up Display
– Group Riding Communication
– App and Smartphone Integration
– Emergency Calls, together with BOSCH, Cardo Systems, Digades, Sena and the Connected Motorcycle Consortium, with its founding members BMW Motorrad, Honda and Yamaha. Ducati, Kawasaki, KTM and Suzuki will showcase the latest solutions and innovations here.

An overview of the contents showcased in the clusters:

Connectivity Vehicle to Vehicle: Communication systems between motorcycles and between motorcycles and other vehicles. This enables vehicles, for example, to connect with each other in a network of so-called cooperative, intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) and detect each other in good time. This is particularly safety-relevant for motorcycles, since a large number of accidents occur because the motorcycle is not seen by the driver.

Connected Horizon and Head Up Display: Driving assistance systems for enhanced safety that collect vehicle data, static and dynamic map data, and current traffic information, and provide the rider with information on speed limits, curves and bends, danger points and traffic jams.

Group Riding Communication: In addition to safety, the focus is also on “smart” solutions and increased driving comfort. This is where bike-to-bike in-helmet communication solutions and smartphone-based communication systems are showcased. These naturally also include access to navigation and infotainment systems.

App and Smartphone Integration: Intelligent smartphone applications can be controlled directly from the motorcycle’s handlebars. They collect driving dynamics data that can be loaded directly into the cloud and compared with the passengers.

E-Call: Intelligent safety systems whose sensor technology can automatically detect a motorcycle accident and make an emergency call. This technology can save lives, especially on sparsely trafficked roads.

In addition to the thematic clusters and presentations by the exhibiting companies, interested motorcycle enthusiasts can also learn about the digital present and future of motorcycles and scooters in expert lectures and roundtables held on the “Connected Motorcycle World” stage.

About INTERMOT: The latest motorcycles, scooters, e-bikes as well as the most important
new products in electric mobility, accessories, clothing, parts, customizing, tourism and workshop equipment will be showcased on the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds from Oct. 3-7.
