Sneak peeks at the Ducati 2017 range to include the all-new “Volcano Grey” for the Multistrada 1200 S and new technical upgrades for the Multistrada 2017 family
Ducati previewed some of its latest developments for 2017 and took the wraps off the eagerly awaited SuperSport. The unveiling took place at the Ducati stand (Hall 8, Stand A42/50) on Tuesday, October 4, during the press-only day of the international motorcycle exhibition.
Before lifting the door on the SuperSport, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said that the company had another record year, selling more than 55,000 motorcycles. But he also said that sales for bikes above 500 cc were flat. This may have been part of the reasoning behind producing the SuperSport.
The 2017 SuperSport is billed as a versatile machine that can be ridden comfortably on any road. Ducati wanted to create a sport bike that matched its characteristic style and handling but also provided a more comfortable sitting position.
“I’m extremely proud to be able to reveal the latest Ducati 2017 bikes, starting with the SuperSport,” Domenicali said at the bike’s unveiling. “After sharing a sneak peek with the Ducatista community at WDW 2016, we’re ready to present the bike to the thousands of enthusiasts who had eagerly awaited a sport bike capable of ensuring both fun and comfort, even in everyday riding situations. Expert riders will appreciate the true sports personality of the SuperSport, its excellent road performance and apparent penchant for journeying and everyday use. Riders approaching the Ducati sports world for the first time will discover versatility, easy handling and, above all, the very essence of sports riding as Ducati sees it.”
Other models in the Ducati 2017 range that were on display at INTERMOT included the Multistrada 1200 S, sporting a new stylish “Volcano Grey” colorway and practical technical upgrades. For 2017 the Multistrada 1200 family features a new airbox in the intake zone and new engine calibration; these changes give the twin-cylinder Testastretta DVT even fuller, more satisfying mid-range power delivery.
Ducati also be presented the new EURO 4 engines for the Monster 821 and Diavel. The Monster 821 range, also features new colorways with the appealing “Dust Grey” color, a dark grey that offers a stark contrast that matches the red frame and wheels.
Significant upgrades to the Ducati Superbike family have also been made, with the 1299 Panigale and 1299 Panigale S, seeing the introduction of the latest EVO version of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC). These systems were first seen on the exclusive 1299 Panigale S Anniversario and maximize the performance and active safety of this Ducati Superbike. The new DTC and DWC EVO feature a new algorithm that makes their intervention faster and more precise.
