Design Engineering, Inc. Celebrates 20 Year Anniversary

Design Engineering, Inc. has announced the company’s 20th anniversary. Formed in 1995 by Dale and Nancy Markley, the company continues to expand and thrive under the leadership of their son, David Markley.

In the course of the past 20 years, DEI has designed and developed a multitude of new and innovative thermal protection materials and products. Now employing 30 at the company’s main headquarters in Avon Lake, OH, DEI has stayed true to the company’s original focus on developing the most advanced performance heat and sound control products while also introducing new brands including: Boom Mat, DEI Powersports, Ny-Trex nitrous oxide performance systems, Radiator Relief performance coolant additives and CryO² cryogenic intake systems. In 2003, Design Engineering was honored with the Best New Performance-Racing Product award from SEMA in recognition of the outstanding and innovative design achievement for the introduction of CryO².

In celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, DEI has produced a video currently featured on its You Tube channel. The video provides a historical perspective of how DEI was formed under the able leadership of the late Dale Markley and his wife Nancy, and how it has evolved into a worldwide business with sales across a broad variety of markets. The video captures 20 years of growth from the company’s earliest origins operating in Dale’s garage, to space rented behind a convenience store, to its present 24,000 sq. ft. headquarters located on four acres. In closing, the video captures a snapshot of the 20 year evolution of Design Engineering and the close camaraderie shared by employees, past and present.

Our employees are 100 percent committed to Design Engineering and to providing the best possible customer experience every time. We are also blessed to operate in an industry made up of really good people. In 20 years of business we’ve only had to write off three bad debts! I don’t know of another industry that can claim such integrity. It has been a great ride. Even now we are eyeing additional expansion to meet demand. I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years brings.”

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame recently named Marilyn Stemp and Steve Piehl to its board of directors.

Stemp is a pioneering figure in the motorcycle industry, founding IronWorks Magazine with her late husband, Dennis, and becoming the first female editor of a nationally circulated, mainstream motorcycle magazine. She also revived their trade magazine, Iron Trader News; edits the monthly Kiwi Indian News; contributes to several powersports media outlets; and is the founding editor of Sturgis Rider Daily. Stemp is a noted editor and writer of several motorcycle-focused books. Her consistent support for charitable efforts in the industry include the annual Biker Belles Celebration, Las Vegas BikeFest and as campaign chair for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum’s development plan in 2014. She co-founded the Flying Piston charity events taking place in Daytona and Sturgis each year and is a National Ambassador for All Kids Bike. Stemp was inducted into both the Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the Sturgis Museum's Hall of Fame in 2018, and in 2022 she was recognized as one of the Top 100 Women in Powersports by DealerNews.
