I’m the world’s biggest skeptic, especially when it comes to the safety of my noggin. So when I recently received the new CKX T\X-517 Backflip off-road helmet from Kimpex, with a retail price of only $119.99, you can imagine what I was thinking! It looks stellar, but looks can be deceiving; so, I proceeded to the head test. I was impressed. It fits comfortably with no wobbling around. The removable and washable Coolmax liners increase the comfort factor. Another noticeable safety feature is the removable cheek pads for those … uh … less professional moves that may require easy helmet removal -— a feature usually found on more expensive lids. It gets a lightweight injection-molded plastic shell with a rear exhaust system, and it is ECE/22 and D.O.T. safety rated. I’m beginning to think that competition is driving the price down on quality helmets, and there really is great value with premium features for just over $100.
