Even before the 2018 season ends, BMW Motorrad is providing a taste of what will come in 2019 at INTERMOT by presenting two new premieres to the media and public. The BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 RT, which were presented just a few days ago to select BMW dealers, celebrated their INTERMOT premiere in Cologne today.
The new machines include a more advanced boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology, which offers an additional increase in power across the entire engine speed range, reduced emission and fuel economy levels, for more refinement and smoothness.
BMW ShiftCam Technology has been used for the first time in the production of BMW Motorrad engines – this enables variation of valve timing and valve stroke on the intake side. In addition, the intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, resulting in enhanced swirl of the fuel mixture and therefore more effective combustion. Other technical changes to the engine relate to the camshaft drive – now handled by a toothed chain (previously a roller chain) – an optimized oil supply, twin-jet injection valves and a new exhaust system.
Apart from the current model range and the new products on display, trade and show visitors can also explore the extensive range of accessories as well as the innovative rider equipment at BMW’s stand. The company also has its a stand at INTERMOT Customized in hall 10. 14 featuring several BMW custom bikes.
On Friday, October 5, there will also be the Pure&Crafted Campus 66 Special on the Campus Fichtenhain area in Krefeld which revives the spirit of the Pure&Crafted festivals on a smaller scale. As a special event on Saturday morning (October 6), there will be a joint ride-in from the campus to INTERMOT.
There will also be plenty of adrenaline around when the “Sultans of Sprint” launch their 1/8 mile sprint race, which BMW Motorrad will also take part in. And the current BMW models will also be awaiting test riders on the test ride course.
