Northern California motocross racers have been competing in AMP motocross events for over a decade. The American Motorcyclist Association has announced that in 2014 these events, held at venues such as The Oatfield Raceway in Turlock, Calif., Hollister Hills SVRA in Hollister, Calif., and Prairie City SRVA will be AMA sanctioned.
"We’re very pleased to partner with Corky Azevedo and AMP," said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "AMP motocross events are some of the best run in the country, and with years of experience behind them, the Azevedo family has shown that they have what it takes to run a quality event and provide some of the best racing conditions in Northern California."
"With the addition of the Mammoth Motocross program last year, also in Northern California, and now AMP, AMA members will see the benefits that our consistent rules package brings," said Bigelow. "Common rules and class structures at a multiple of events result in fair competition for everyone. We are excited to see these events join the AMA sanctioning calendar for 2014."
The competition kicked off with the Vurb Classic West on Aug. 23 and then a round of the AMP Fall Motocross Series on Sept. 7. Next is the Dodge California State Championship Pro-Am Oct. 1-6.
"Joining forces with the AMA will make racing stronger and provide for a more uniform approach to amateur motocross racing in our state," said Jack "Corky" Azevedo, owner of Azevedo Motocross Promotions. "Our goal is to help grow the sport and provide an outstanding race experience for our customers. Making the Dodge California State Championship, formally known as the ‘Dodge Amateur National,’ an AMA-sanctioned event is just the first step.
"Knowing what the AMA can provide to our racers, we’ve moved to sanction all of our events with the AMA," said Azevedo. "We look forward to a long relationship with the AMA and are excited about the future."
