Yuasa Battery Inc. offers an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery designed to replace the original equipment YB14 series batteries that were used in vintage Japanese motorcycles through the 1970s and 1980s. Both the Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS and YTX14AH-BS batteries are 12 volts and are rated at 12 AH. Both are maintenance free.
The YTX14AHL-BS replaces YB14L-A2 and YB14L-B2. It measures 5 5/16 inches x 3 1/2 inches x 6 9/16 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. while providing 210 CCA.
The YTX14AH-BS replaces YB14-A2 and YB14-B2, and measures 5 5/16 inches x 3 1/2 inches x 6 9/16 inches. It weighs 9.0 lbs. while providing 210 CCA.
The AGM technology used in the Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS and YTX14AH-BS batteries is an advanced battery design that eliminates water loss. Because of its lead calcium design, an AGM battery will hold its specific gravity more than three times longer than conventional lead antimony types. This means much longer periods between charges when the battery is used less frequently, such as winter storage.
The Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS and YTX14AH-BS batteries are shipped dry, with the electrolyte stored in a plastic container that comes with the battery. The battery is filled with electrolyte from the container when it’s ready to be activated. These types of factory sealed, dry batteries have an indefinite shelf life as long as they remain sealed (foil sealing strip in place on an AGM battery).
